Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast: Home-Style Classic Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast is comfort food at its finest! It’s delicious, easy & quick to whip up, and tastes superb when paired with a cold beer.
What is chipped Beef? It is salted, pressed, and dried beef. These thin, flexible slices of beef are normally sold in glass jars.
Chipped beef, also known as dried beef, is often prepared from a thinner cut of meat, like beef round. For several days, the meat is submerged in a brine solution before being extracted and air-dried. Smoking the meat while it dries adds a unique taste to the already wonderful chipped beef.
Ingredients
2 tbsp butter
1 ½ c. warm milk
1 (8 oz.) jar of dried beef, chopped
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
4 bread, toasted
1 pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
Over low heat, melt the butter in a medium saucepan. Into the melted butter, whisk the flour until smooth. Slowly stir in the milk. Then, let the mixture boil over medium-high heat until thickened, stirring.
Toss in the beef along with cayenne. Cook further until warmed through.
Serve the Chipped Beef hot over toast.
Notes
3/4 pound browned, drained hamburger meat is also a wonderful alternative to make this recipe.
